Poughkeepsie City School District

Together, We are Champions for Children in Poughkeepsie City Schools

Registration remains open for Friday Night, Saturday Morning Lights

Posted Date: 12/03/25 (06:30 PM)

Every Friday night and Saturday morning, Poughkeepsie Middle School becomes a place where students can learn skills like cooking or sewing, engage in arts and STEM activities, receive lessons to take part in music and a new HBCU-style marching band program, make use of an open gym, and even receive academic support like homework help. Plus, food is provided, and it’s all free of charge to those who register.
Community Schools’ Friday Night Lights and Saturday Morning Lights programs kicked off last month, giving all students a place to have fun together doing any number of academic or non-academic things, from playing board games or basketball to hearing from guest speakers and receiving SAT and ACT guidance.
The Friday night program, from 4-7 p.m., is open to students in grades 6-12. The Saturday program, from 9 a.m.-noon, is for pre-K to 8, though select Saturdays career exploration workshops are also available at the school for older students.
All programs will be held through mid-June on all Fridays and Saturdays, with some exceptions during school recess periods. Registration is required and space is limited, but we encourage all students to make use of this amazing time. Register at this link for the Friday program or at this link for Saturday Morning Lights. Registration for the career workshops is available here.
