High School Graduation
Successful completion of all state mandated requirements including course credits and assessments which lead to the awarding of a high school diploman.  Students can earn: 

  • Regents diploma 
  • Regents diploma with advanced designation 
  • Local diploma 

Credit Requirements
Students must earn a specific number of course credits in various subject areas including English, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, health, art/music, and physical education.  

Assessment Requirements
Students demonstrate proficiency by passing specific Regents exams or completing approved alternate pathways to graduation. 

Cohort 
In New York a high school cohort refers to the group of students who initially enter ninth grade in the same school year.  This group is defined by their anticipated graduation year.  Students who are in the four year cohort graduated high school in four years of entering ninth grade.  Students in the five year cohort graduated within five years of entering ninth grade.  Students in the six year cohort graduation high school within six years of entering ninth grade.
