Superintendent of Schools Gregory Mott has been meeting with groups, including with students at Truth, Warring and the high and middle schools, regarding the Poughkeepsie City School District’s Code of Conduct. On Tuesday, Mott spoke with around 10 parents and caregivers who compose the policy committee, a meeting set up by committee chair and board member Fatimah Carmen Martinez Santiago.
The goal of the meetings is to gather input from all stakeholders involved in forming the updated Code of Conduct.
“I genuinely enjoyed seeing the faces of our students and parents,” Mott said. “As the meetings progressed, the students became more involved in the discussions. They freely expressed their opinions on how to make the Code of Conduct less punitive and more aligned with encouraging the success of students.”
Martinez Santiago said the meetings have been “highly impactful,” praising the ability to experience “the varying voices of our students and parents, just to understand their perspectives.”
