Poughkeepsie City School District

All pre-K through fifth grade students who live more than a half-mile from their school building will be eligible for school bus service beginning this fall. The service, which is offered to students for the first time in the district’s more-than 180-year history, was made possible through the Elementary Reconfiguration process and with the support of residents during the May 20 budget and board election vote. Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Gregory Mott was officially made Superintendent of Schools July 1, the day after Dr. Eric Jay Rosser stepped down from the post. Mott has spent nearly 30 years as an educator, the last five in Poughkeepsie, and has had his fingerprints on several key district initiatives, including Elementary Reconfiguration, adopting and implementing a research-based K-8 ELA and math curriculum and getting each elementary school a “good standing” designation from the state Education Department.

The Poughkeepsie City School District has been taking steps to reduce chronic absenteeism through prioritizing engagement with families, incentiziving and acknowledging attendance achievements and institutting the Everyday Labs system for notifying families of attendance trends.
