                                                   Ms. Formato and Mrs. Iagia

    Dear ENL Students and Families,

As a new ENL Department within the building, we’d like to take a moment to introduce ourselves.

My name is Anne Formato and I am coming to Krieger from Poughkeepsie High School. I’ve worked within the Poughkeepsie City School District for the past 9 years now and this is my 13th year teaching. I’ve taught various subject areas and nearly every grade level, yet have spent the majority of my teaching career at the secondary level. However, I am very excited about joining the Krieger family

My name is Djamilia Iagia. I am brand new to not only Krieger but the Poughkeepsie school district as well! I am excited to be working with our ELLs and families. I have worked in the NYC school district for the last five years working with ELLs and Special Needs students. I have experience in both ENL and Special Ed at the elementary level. I’m very excited about the new year ahead and joining the Krieger family!

We are excited to begin the 2018-2019 academic year together and feel very grateful to work with such a dedicated body of professionals who have opened their classrooms to our department much the same way that they do to our students- with warmth and enthusiasm.
With that being said... please know that our goal is to provide your child with a comprehensive program that is dynamic and engaging. Our goal is to be a supportive haven for the educational and emotional growth of your child. Throughout the next few weeks, as we try and gain a better sense of your child’s interests and abilities, please do not hesitate to reach out to our department if you have any questions and or concerns about your child and about accommodations that are being made for him/her as a LEP (Limited English Proficient) student. We will do our best to assist both you and our students in any way possible.

We are looking forward to a productive year ahead chocked full of listening, reading, writing and speaking activities aimed at improving your child’s English Language Skills.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Formato and Mrs. Iagia

    ENL Department, Krieger Elementary

Anne Formato is beginning her 11th year teaching within the Poughkeepsie City School District.  This marks her 15th year of teaching.   Ms. Formato has divided her teaching time nearly equally between teaching LOTE (in conjunction with FLES) and teaching ENL and ELA.  She is an avid lover of all things related to international travel and cuisine. She can be reached via her district email and/or via her classroom phone.

Djamilia Iagia is starting her second year as an English as a New Language (ENL) teacher at Krieger Elementary.  Before working at Krieger, she was a Special Education teacher in the Bronx, NY for five years. Mrs. Iagia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History with a focus on Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) and Special Education (Grades 1-6), as well as a Master’s Degree in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).  As an immigrant herself, she understands all too well the struggle of learning a new language. Mrs. Iagia can be reached through school email or calling Krieger.
