Fourth grade is an exciting year of new beginnings. We switch classes for ELA and Math allowing students to work with more than one teacher and begin preparing for middle school. We learn about New York State in Social Studies and prepare for the NYS Science test while learning about the food web, rocks and minerals, and conducting experiments. Through the Eureka Math course, students will use the place value chart to solve problems in double-digit multiplication and long division. We also explore fractions and geometry.

In fourth grade, our students are reading to acquire knowledge. Students are analyzing text across all disciplines. Furthermore, students are engaged in multiple research projects to become experts in specific domains. Math instruction is focused on developing a deeper understanding of calculation, numeration, geometry and application problems. Skills are developed in the areas of classification, multi-digit calculation, and problems involving fractions. This year, fourth-grade scholars will be taking the first New York State Assessment in Science. This assessment will cover all curriculum from kindergarten to the current grade level. Social Studies is we learn about the state of New York and its history.  The Second Step program helps our scholars to develop social skills. Classdojo is an important tool to communicate with families in real-time. Please get the Classdojo app and reach out to your child’s teacher.
