                                            Ms. Cillis, Mrs. Burke, Mrs. Peluse, Mrs. Sloan, Ms. Davis-Kraus, Ms. O'Connell

     First graders have been very busy settling down and learning new routines.  We have been practicing our letters and sounds.  We will begin reading workshops the week of October 22nd.  We have also been working diligently on number bonds and practicing addition facts to 10.  Please practice your tricky words and read daily at home.  We look forward to a successful and productive year. 

     

    First Grade classes are working on settling routines and understanding classroom rules.  We are reviewing letters and sounds. We are also learning how to write in a complete sentence.  In math, we are working building number sense skills and making number bonds.

     

    Denise Davis-Kraus has been teaching in Poughkeepsie City School District for 18 as a Special Education teacher. She has a masters degree in General Education as well as Special Education.  Throughout the years in the district, Denise has been a self-contained teacher grades K-6 in the elementary buildings.

     

    Traci Cillis has been teaching in the Poughkeepsie City School District for 15 years.  She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Elementary Education/Special Education.  In addition, she has a Masters Degree in Literacy.     Susan Peluse is starting her 20th year of teaching in the Poughkeepsie City School District.  She taught third and fourth grade and is now in her third year of teaching first grade.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Curriculum Development.     Jackie Ryan has been working in the Poughkeepsie City School District for 6 years. This will be her third year of teaching first grade.     Kim Sloan has been working in the City of Poughkeepsie School District for 32 years.  She has taught first grade for 25 years and the other years have been in second grade.  She graduated from Suny New Paltz for both her BA and MA.
