Vassar art show to feature Warring students' work
The 38th Annual John Iyoya Children’s Art Exhibit at Vassar College will feature roughly 100 pieces of art from Warring that will be on display from March 9-14.

Warring third graders visit Vassar College
Third grade students from Warring Elementary took a tour of Vassar College Feb. 21 in the next step of a pilot program, “Warring is College Bound,” for exposing primary students to local campuses.

Warring students tour campus to begin elementary initiative
The tour was part of the Poughkeepsie City School District’s ongoing focus on college and career readiness for all students. District counselors in recent years have exposed elementary students to the details of higher education, such as what dorm life looks like and what areas can be studied there, in order to get the kids thinking about what success in school can lead to.

Morse, Warring recycling art projects win county contest
Projects from Morse Elementary fourth graders and Warring Elementary fifth graders swept the Third-to-Fifth-Grade category of Dutchess County government’s inaugural “America Recycles Day Art Challenge.”

Warring students recycle to create art in competition
The project was part of the America Recycles Day Art Challenge. The program was created by the Dutchess County Division of Solid Waste Management in recognition of America Recycles Day, Nov. 15. The goal of the challenge, according to the county, is to teach “local students about recycling and encouraging them to reuse items that might otherwise be thrown away.”

Cafeteria remodel wows PHS students; Warring next
The remodeled cafeteria spaces have high school students embracing breakfast and lunch. The next step in the district's cafeteria initiative will see renovations at Warring Elementary.

The Marist Liberty Partnerships Program provides Poughkeepsie City School District students with academic, social and emotional support during grades 5-12. The program is seeking fifth grade students who fit the profile that would benefit most.

Read the World program encouraging literacy returns, expands
The second year of the Read the World Motivational Reading Program launched at Roberto Clemente Elementary School (formerly Clinton Elementary) on Feb. 19. Originally introduced at Clinton in January 2024, the program aims to enhance students' reading abilities, strengthen comprehension skills and ignite excitement for reading. This year, the program has expanded to include fourth-grade students from Warring Elementary School.

Plan to expand school buses for elementary students approved, needs voter approval in May
The Board of Education on Wednesday night approved transformative measures to better meet the educational, functional and inspirational needs of our youngest learners. None are more potentially impactful than a plan to institute school bus transportation across the elementary grade levels.

Elementary schools realigned to better serve students
District elementary schools will be reorganized for the 2025-26 school year to group more students and faculty of the same grade level together in fewer buildings, maximize educational resources and encourage a sense of belonging for Poughkeepsie’s youngest learners.
