Guest artists spark creativity, challenge students
Four artists spent two weeks working with Poughkeepsie Middle School students on a variety of projects designed to spark creativity and enrich their academic experience with art, thanks to the Bardavon.

Students deliver gifts of hope to City of Poughkeepsie shelters
Residents of the Webster and Hillcrest Houses were happy to receive 360 soft blankets with kind messages from Poughkeepsie Middle School and Early Learning Center students during a visit on June 7.

2021-2022 Extended Learning Time Interest & Request Form
Extended learning time takes place Monday-Thursday for two hours after school. ELA courses will be provided on Mondays and Wednesdays; Math courses will be provided on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Completing this form to register does NOT guarantee the student will be enrolled in the program. Enrollment is contingent upon academic integrity and need. Once enrolled, students will be given a schedule confirming their enrollment and the courses they are taking. Students will need to walk home or be picked up from ELT. Buses will not be provided. Students in ELT are expected to follow the District Code of Conduct. Please return this form to the building as soon as possible to ensure enrollment!

Senator honors Superstars
Sen. Sue Serino honored four Poughkeepsie Middle School students with Serino Superstar awards June 17 during a special afternoon ceremony hosted by the Social Studies department. The students: Amiyah Wood, Jamir Hawley, Ximena Alarcon and Naomy Valle-Netzahuatl were present along with their parents.

Students earn honors for invention ideas
Employees from Poughkeepsie-based technology company Uncharted Power, in collaboration with Poughkeepsie Middle School staff, helped educate more than 220 PMS students about innovation. Students virtually learned through the “UPlift” program about how they, too, can be inventors in their communities. Uncharted Power helps communities improve the resiliency of their local infrastructure, so when the electrical grid fails, the community doesn’t.

ConnectED NY Parent / Caregiver Application
The ConnectED NY program is providing hotspots and data plans to students with unreliable internet service at home. ● A mobile hotspot provides a secure internet connection for other devices. ● Through AT&T, households will be offered unlimited data through June 2022. Internet service may be slowed each month after exceeding a high data usage threshold (50 GB). ● No payments or financial information required. ● Mobile hotspots will be mailed to student/caregiver homes in May 2021. Or, option to pick-up at a school district location if needed.

PMS staff provide 13 families with holiday meals
During a typical Thanksgiving break, Poughkeepsie Middle School staff donate turkey dinners to several PMS families.

PCSD’s Capital Bond Project vote will take place Oct. 20, 2020. Under Proposition 1, Poughkeepsie Middle School would get a new safety vestibule with transaction window and new exterior and select interior doors.

Students celebrate moving up to new schools
Kindergarten and fifth grade students from the Poughkeepsie City School District are now officially ready for elementary and middle school respectively after ceremonies celebrating their achievements during the weeks of June 13 and 20.

Church purchase will expand arts education
The Poughkeepsie Board of Education (BOE) approved district leadership to move forward in acquiring the Changepoint Church property as a multiuse facility that will serve the needs of the Poughkeepsie City School District, the Board of Education, student music and arts programming, and community programming and functions.
