On Dec. 12, Poughkeepsie Middle School recognized its high-achieving students with a field trip to the Rhinebeck Performing Arts Center to see a live performance of “A Christmas Carol.”

PMS students encouraged to RISE this year at PBIS assemblies
PBIS, or positive behavioral interventions and supports, “is all about making our school a place where everyone feels safe, respected and ready to learn,” Assistant Principal for Climate and Culture Danielle Green told an auditorium full of students Friday. “It’s a way to help us remember to be kind, make good choices and work together so we can all have a great school day.”

The Marist Liberty Partnerships Program provides Poughkeepsie City School District students with academic, social and emotional support during grades 5-12. The program is seeking fifth grade students who fit the profile that would benefit most.

A letter from Dr. Eric Jay Rosser on Superintendent transition
Effective July 1, 2025, Mr. Greg Mott, assistant superintendent of elementary education, will serve as acting interim superintendent. The Board of Education will provide updates as it moves forward in selecting the district’s next superintendent.

Read the World program encouraging literacy returns, expands
The second year of the Read the World Motivational Reading Program launched at Roberto Clemente Elementary School (formerly Clinton Elementary) on Feb. 19. Originally introduced at Clinton in January 2024, the program aims to enhance students' reading abilities, strengthen comprehension skills and ignite excitement for reading. This year, the program has expanded to include fourth-grade students from Warring Elementary School.

As the Poughkeepsie City School District continues to battle chronic absenteeism, schools are celebrating and rewarding students who have been diligent in attending class through the fall and winter months.

Plan to expand school buses for elementary students approved, needs voter approval in May
The Board of Education on Wednesday night approved transformative measures to better meet the educational, functional and inspirational needs of our youngest learners. None are more potentially impactful than a plan to institute school bus transportation across the elementary grade levels.

Elementary schools realigned to better serve students
District elementary schools will be reorganized for the 2025-26 school year to group more students and faculty of the same grade level together in fewer buildings, maximize educational resources and encourage a sense of belonging for Poughkeepsie’s youngest learners.
