Virtual college fair debuts on website
Poughkeepsie High School students can explore more than 150 different colleges virtually, thanks to an effort to increase student opportunity and access as outlined in the District Annual Goals.

ReStore partners with PHS class for art lesson
Art offers many opportunities for students to display their talents and maximize their potential. PHS art teacher Debbie Lashlee took advantage of an offer from the Poughkeepsie Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore location to do just that.

PHS toy drive yields an abundance of gifts for kids
Though COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the “Cocoa, Cookies and Caroling” event to mark the end of Poughkeepsie High School’s first annual toy drive to support the John Flowers Christmas Wish, it couldn’t stop the donations.

Graduation rates rise, PCSD not satisfied
Graduation rates in the Poughkeepsie City School District for those students who entered ninth grade in 2016 and graduated by August 2020 climbed six percentage points from 54 percent to 60 percent, according to data released Thursday from the New York State Education Department.

Saturday Morning Lights resumes live Saturday, Jan. 16
The Saturday Morning Lights enrichment program resumes in-person this week at Poughkeepsie Middle School. A phased-in approach is being used to ensure the program can meet participants’ needs and adhere to all COVID-19 safety precautions, Interim Executive Director of Community Schools Natasha Cherry said.

Club advisers undergo training
Clubs, Homework Help Centers and sports are scheduled to start in 2021. Thirty-six advisers, coaches and staff members attended a special orientation Dec. 22 to prepare them for their programmatic and fiscal responsibilities.
