Under Proposition 2 of the Capital Improvement Project, Poughkeepsie Middle School could become a place where art, technology, the performing arts and the medical field are the focus.

Creating educational pathways at each of the district’s schools is one way the project will help change our schools into 21st century learning centers. That focus is one option being considered for PMS. Proposition 2 requires a supermajority vote. In addition to whatever pathway is decided, the cafeteria would be completely gutted and renovated, seating in the auditorium would be replaced and the flooring and stage flooring renovated. Tile in the kitchen, locker rooms and classrooms would be replaced.

The school would also get a new safety vestibule with transaction window and new exterior and select interior doors. The restroom fixtures and finishes would undergo renovation and roofing would be replaced/restored to prevent leaks. New sanitary piping would be installed throughout the building along with replacing hot and cold water distribution piping where fixtures were being replaced. A new, outdoor digital sign would be installed. The school would also get a new digital sign outside. (These projects are also outlined in Proposition 1, a proposition that only serves to address the mechanical and infrastructure needs of the building).
