“Our guys were excited, hungry and motivated - it was the first time we won homecoming in 10 years,” Coach Mark Bianco said. “They played with heart and passion.”

The victory was a team effort with all the players and coaches giving their best. The game was also senior night for the team.

Some highlights from the 24-20 game:

  • Running back Sam Moore had 220 all-purpose yards and a touchdown
  • Quarterback Nigel Whitaker had 67 yards receiving and a touchdown
  • Wide receiver Daevon Robinson had 137 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead touchdown with about nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter

“I’m so excited for these guys. It’s awesome to see them working so hard and finding success,” Bianco said. “You can feel the support at the school - the faculty, staff and students are excited. It gives the players a sense of pride.”

This week the team’s practices will mark a return to the basics as well as working on some new offense and defense. The team next competes Oct. 22 at home against the winner of this week’s Edgemont vs. Ramapo matchup.

“The key is for us to stay focused, keep playing hard and keep moving on,” he said, adding that as long as the team keeps winning, all its games will be at home.

Horace Greeley, the No. 2 seeded team has a bye this week and will host Irvington next week.
