At Poughkeepsie High School, the Multicultural Club honored the final day of National Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, with an assembly celebrating the diverse cultures of the students.
The high-energy presentation included several dances in the style of specific Hispanic countries and poetry readings. Students brandished the flags representing their family’s country of origin, audience members howled and cheered at the mention of their own countries, and to begin the show some students took the stage in elaborate gowns.
The show followed Hispanic Heritage Spirit Week, in which each day students were encouraged to come to school following a different theme, such as wearing your country’s flag, dressing up like your favorite Hispanic celebrity, or dressing in festive colors.
