Medical, arts and technology is one possible educational pathway being considered for Poughkeepsie High School under Proposition 2 of the Capital Improvement Project set for a vote Oct. 20, 2020.
Creating educational pathways at each of the district’s schools is one way the project will help change our schools into 21st century learning centers. Proposition 2 requires a supermajority vote. In addition to whatever pathway is decided upon for the high school, a collaborative space would be created in the lobby, the stage flooring in the auditorium would be restored and ceiling improvements would be made throughout the building. Tile flooring in the older portion of the building would be replaced along with the flooring in the library.
A new safety vestibule with transaction window would be built and new exterior and select interior doors installed. The girls’ and boys’ locker rooms would get renovations as would restroom fixtures and finishes throughout. Roofing would be replaced/restored to prevent leaks and landscaping would be done at the exterior sign. A storm water management system would be installed and select parking lots repaved. (These projects are also outlined in Proposition 1, a proposition that only serves to address the mechanical and infrastructure needs of the building).
