    The Poughkeepsie City School District is increasing outreach to find solutions for chronic absenteeism, and introducing an attendance incentive program beginning next month. The moves come as data from the first two months of the school year showed an increase in chronic absenteeism compared to the same period last year, but also an increase in the average number of students attending school daily.

It will translate to approximately $30 million in building upgrades, depending on the application of state aid. It comes on the same night the board was presented its 2023-24 external audit showing the district is in healthy financial standing, representing a reversal from past years.

    The second year of the Donuts with Dad series began Oct. 3 with a record turnout of more than 80. The next event, in which parents can learn more about what's going on in their child's school while sharing food and games with them, is scheduled for Warring Elementary Nov. 14.
