" Principal for A Day" - An initiative started under the leadership of Dr. Nicole Williams to connect the community--business and civic leaders with our schools serving over 4,700 students in the City of Poughkeepsie-- is in it's third year of implementation. The Poughkeepsie City School District invites volunteers from the City of Poughkeepsie to experience a half-day in the "shoes of a principal." The day includes a welcome breakfast, one-on-one time with the principal in a data review, opportunities to interact with the faculty, as well as time in the classroom with SCHOLARS on a Focused Instructional Learning Walk (FILW). Principals share their "glows"- points of pride, and "grows"- areas of focus that might benefit from additional support. The Principal for a Day share strengths and provide "critical friends" feedback to support the Poughkeepsie City School District with it's mission: "to deliver on the promise of a high-quality, world-class education for every scholar, every day, in every classroom."
Let today be a shining moment in our history as we greet our elected officials and community members during our Read Across America, Celebrating Dr. Seuss, and "Principal for a Day."
